Greencard Winners’ congress 2000
Greencard Winner congress 2000
On Saturday, September 9th, 2000 almost 200 of currently more than 3000 winners through THE AMERICAN DREAM came to the annual winner´s congress in Berlin, Germany. People came from all over Europe and the overall impression of the participants was great, so that we can once again consider this seminar a tremendous success. Around 100 additional winners were later invited to special smaller seminars (usually in gruops of about ten people) in which basically the same topics were discussed.
The company managers Holger Zimmermann and Marcus Sieber congratulated all customers and lead through the seminar.
US-Immigration-Lawyer Liam Schwartz travelled from Israel to attend the seminar. He talked about keeping the greencard valid for many years, even if outside the USA, dealing with the INS and other immigration rules. Mr. Schwartz is the author of the book United States—Entry and Work Permits and has participated in many discussion groups inside the US State Department.
Matthew Ozburn (Director US Tax at Ernst & Young Germany) explained the very difficult US tax system by using real-life examples. He was also available for general questions.
How to apply for a job, now that you have a greencard? Expert Klaus Schuermann explained what a job application in America should look like and how to go through a job interview. The new greencard holders will now be able to apply for any job they like. They will not be discriminated in America, since they have the same constitutional workers´ rights as any US citizen.
Mr. Andreas Opitz talked about the social system in the United States, health insurance and social security. He gave recommendations on which insurance to choose, how to apply for a social security card, how to build a credit history and many other often forgotten aspects of life in America.
Last but not least, emigration counselor Georg Mehnert of the German Caritas foundation answered general immigration questions with an emphasis on social aspects and job search.
THE AMERICAN DREAM will continue to offer free counselling to all winners who attended the seminar and all the others who could not make it. We hope that every winner will be able to fulfil his or her personal dreams in the United States of America.
Good Luck!
Yours, THE AMERICAN DREAM Team
